2. Mayan Train

Renfe was awarded in 2021 the 3-year service contract for the development of the Mayan Train in Mexico, in a consortium with Spanish firm Ineco and German DB Engineering & Consulting.

The Shadow Operator will be in charge of reviewing the basic engineering of the entire project, defining the operation requirements and the technical specifications of the rolling stock and railway systems, verifying that the maintenance requirements are consistent with the approach of the operations plan.

Likewise, the Shadow Operator will advise Fonatur throughout the tendering process for the acquisition of the rolling stock and railway systems (signalling, communications and control posts) from the preparation of the specifications, support during the tendering process, supervision of the manufacture, delivery and commissioning of the rolling stock, including workshops and depots, to the commissioning and commercial service of the passenger rail transport operation.

The Mayan Train will cover a distance of around 1,500 km and will pass through the Mexican states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo.
